About Ritual Abode
Based in San Luis Obispo on California's Central Coast,
Ritual Abode hosts intimate gatherings for women centered around a thoughtfully prepared meal and guided conversation. Our hope is to create spaces where people feel seen, heard, nourished, and connected.
My Story
Hi, I'm Megan, the founder of Ritual Abode. I'm so glad you're here.
I started Ritual Abode because I believe we need more spaces where women can connect. A space where meaningful conversations can unfold between people who start off as strangers.
Connecting us to wisdom and perspectives we may not otherwise get to
witness in our familiar social circles.
I was raised in a large family with aunts and uncles living down the road and grandparents in the same town. Gathering around the table was part of daily life. When I moved to San Luis Obispo in my early twenties, I found myself missing something I hadn't fully appreciated growing up—intergenerational relationships. I felt surrounded by people my own age, all asking similar questions about life, careers, relationships, and purpose. I missed conversations with people who had lived through different seasons of life. Looking around, I realized there were very few places where those kinds of relationships happened naturally.
I began imagining a gathering where strangers and friends could come together around a beautiful table, share a meal, listen deeply, and leave feeling a little less alone.
I held the dream of Ritual Abode in my heart for years before finally deciding to bring it to life in 2025.
The first gathering was a trial run with six women who knew me but didn't know one another. I was filled with imposter syndrome and questioned whether I could really create the kind of evening I had imagined. Our conversation centered around poetry. Each guest brought a poem
that reflected the season of life she was in.
For three hours we listened, shared stories, laughed, cried, and witnessed one another with so much care. The safety that we created together invited a level of intimacy and depth that each person bravely embraced. It blew my mind witnessing the way each woman held space and extended love towards each other. As the evening unfolded, I knew this was what I wanted to spend my life creating. I left that night believing more than ever that meaningful conversation has the power to transform a room full of strangers into community.
Since that first gathering
Women have continued showing up with openness, courage, and curiosity. Many guests come alone, not knowing anyone else around the table. By the end of the evening, they're exchanging phone numbers, making plans to meet again, collaborating on creative projects, and discovering friendships they never expected.
One of my greatest joys has been watching the community continue long after the table has been cleared. Every gathering leaves me with so much hope in humanity.
When we create spaces where people feel safe enough to share honestly and listen generously, something beautiful happens.
Meet Hannah Brooke
When I first shared the dream for Ritual Abode, Hannah immediately offered to create the meals. It felt like the perfect partnership because while I love bringing people together, she has a remarkable gift for nourishing people through food.
Hannah is a self-taught chef who cooks intuitively and creatively. She creates meals that are both comforting and nourishing, believing that good food is an essential part of meaningful hospitality.
"I grew up in a large family and actually used to really dislike cooking. As I reached adulthood I came to appreciate the practice and cooking skills that many people brought me, as well as a new found love for supporting and caring for people through the art of cooking. I really believe food can heal and nourish not just our physical bodies, but our emotional and spiritual selves as well.
Not so much a recipe follower, I feel very inspired to use whatever ingredients I already have on hand.
Dreaming of all the endless flavor combinations
at my fingertips.
Most of my meals come together from wanting to use a specific one or two ingredients, then following where those flavors take me. Pairing this and that, sometimes making a very simple meal, and sometimes something much more complicated with a lot more ingredients.
My style of cooking is always changing and hopefully growing, but something I have always stuck to is trying to make things look beautiful; food is such a form of art and creative outlet for me.”
Our Vision
We hope to continue creating spaces where meaningful conversations can flourish—whether around our monthly table, at retreats, private celebrations, or community events, throughout California's Central Coast.
Our dream is simple:
To help people slow down and gather with intention. To listen deeply and to leave feeling more connected than when they arrived.
Ritual Abode is about making space for the conversations we often don't have enough of.
It's about remembering that everyone carries a story worth hearing.
