I am excited to announce, Ritual Abode Dinner Events. Intimate dinner gatherings of eight guests with a themed discussion topic.
Years ago I dreamt about hosting small dinner gatherings. I pictured the way food can bring people together, people from different ages and backgrounds who would not get a chance to meet otherwise and find common ground. Over the years the idea has continued to develop. I would be chatting with a friend who moved to a new city and she would say "how do I meet new people?" I would get asked by different people "how have you created the community you have?" Friends would share how they can struggle to have deeper connections in large group settings. Or the loneliness that forms when you spend a lot of time on social media. Seeing others lives and feeling like yours might be lacking in connection based off someone elses highlight reel. There is an ever growing gap between the younger generations and our elders, with few opportunities to hear from each other. It feels like more than ever our communities are craving authentic ways to connect.
On January 24th 2025, I hosted my first dinner in collaboration with my friend Hannah Brooke who cooked all the food. Seven women came most showing up not having met before. The theme for the night was to bring a poem that represented the season of life they were in currently. We sat around listening to poetry and hearing each other share vulnerably about themselves and their lives. Holding space for sorrow, grief, anger, healing and celebration. It was so wonderful to share in the experience everyone created, and see the ways we were alike, or to realize others shared similar struggles. The dinner ended with people who sat down as mostly strangers, leaving feeling connected.
I am excited to be offering Ritual Abode dinner events regularly in San Luis Obispo with different topics of discussion each time. Sign up for my newsletter to stay tuned for when the next event will be happening!
See you around the table,
Megan
